Happy First Birthday Luke!

Today is the big day! Luke turns one year old and we couldn't be more proud! We had a party for him here at home and he was a wonderful host. Our theme was Baby Einstein (his favorite). My plan was to make a Baby Einstein Caterpillar cake, but after burning one cake and one falling flat, we nixed that idea and bought an ice cream cake instead at midnight prior to the party. I was able to salvage one cake (of three total), decorated it as the head of the caterpillar and we used that as Luke's smash cake. He hated it! He did not eat one bite of his homemade caterpillar cake! We tried to get him to eat some of the icing, but it was just a mess! A black icing mess! He did, however, love it when we all sang Happy Birthday - he danced in his chair! He also loved the balloons and queso - it was his first experience with both. Later he ate some of the ice cream cake with Grandpa, watched us open his presents, danced to his musical card, played with his cousins and friends, then crashed for a nap after everyone left. After his nap, he was ready to put together and play with all of his new toys! We are so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family to share in these great moments.
